After two years, it felt great to be back!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The weather was on our side as temperatures hit the mid-20s on August 24, 2021, for the first in-person event we\u2019ve held since COVID-19 hit. It was also&nbsp;the first for our new officers, Majors Jamie and Elaine Locke, who transferred from the Maritimes Division. Restrictions did allow for a short program, where they were able to say a few words about themselves and explain their new roles as Divisional Secretary, and Associate Divisional Secretary, for Public Relations in the Alberta and Northern Territories Division.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The event raised $244,620 in support of The Salvation Army\u2019s Community and Family Services programs in Edmonton. Their programs run all year long and help families and individuals with back-to-school supplies, basic necessities, summer camp, outreach programs, hot meals, food hampers, Christmas assistance, toy hampers, and so much more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The golf tournament was held with proper COVID-19 protocols to help keep everyone safe. A take-out breakfast, online auction, increased sanitization, and a served lunch rather than a buffet, to help minimize touchpoints. The safety of everyone involved with the golf tournament was our top priority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last year, due to the pandemic, our golf tournament went virtual with a week-long event highlighting our ministry units. We had daily prizes, a silent auction, and videos put together to show our donors and sponsors how their contributions help the vulnerable in our community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Over the past 19 years, this event has raised millions of dollars towards many projects, such as new cabins at Pine Lake Camp, new Emergency Disaster Services vehicles, new fishing boats in Sri Lanka, the new Grace Village project, renovations to our Crossroads Community Church, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Make sure to join us next year as we celebrate our 20th Annual Supreme Group Salvation Army Golf Classic.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Thank you to all the sponsors, donors, volunteers, and golfers who participated in our 19th Annual Supreme Group Salvation Army Golf Classic at the Highlands Golf Club.
