Winnipeg, MB – The Salvation Army Community Venture program has been providing day programs and outreach in Winnipeg since 1986 to women and men living with mental and physical disabilities.  Community Venture is devoted to supporting adults living with disabilities by providing them opportunities to work and participate in the community.  Travel is required to incorporate vocational and volunteer placements as well as participating in various recreational activities throughout the city.

“Transportation is a critical element in providing our clients volunteering opportunities, community service function and recreational activities,” explains Kim Park, Executive Director of The Salvation Army Community Venture program. “Our clients participate in ‘Meals on Wheels’ programs, ‘Shopping for Seniors’ programs, volunteering at The Salvation Army Thrift Stores and countless other opportunities that build personal self-esteem and community spirit throughout Winnipeg.”

The Salvation Army Community Venture program had been using a 2002 Ford E350 van for its transportation needs.  However, due to extensive usage in the program, time and wear had taken its toll on the vehicle.  It was very evident that a replacement to this essential service was needed.  When Bonnie and John Buhler heard about the need, they wanted to do something about it.

“The van is so desperately needed,” states Bonnie Buhler, “and The Salvation Army has a proven record of good stewardship.  We were honored to be a part of this Salvation Army project.”

Through the personal financial donation of $37, 816 by Bonnie and John Buhler, The Salvation Army Community Venture program was able to purchase and convert a brand new 2013 Dodge Caravan.
