The Salvation Army couldn’t do what we do without the generosity of our donors. Donors who open their hearts to help us continue giving hope today. The Salvation Army Prairie would like to recognize Manitoba Pork as our Donor of the Month for October.

Manitoba Pork first became a donor about five years ago. Since then, they have supported The Salvation Army by donating various pork products to help us serve our clients or to feed guests at special events.

“Donations like this are lasting and help us to make a difference in the lives of those we serve,” says Captain Jamie Rands, Divisional Secretary, Public Relations with The Salvation Army. “We often depend on the generosity of our donors to continue offering life-changing programs and services to those who find themselves in less fortunate circumstances. Working with limited resources and often very tight budgets, we are extremely thankful when donations like this are presented. It allows us to extend the resources available to us in greater ways to serve our community.”

This year alone, Manitoba Pork donated a tonne of locally produced, 100% pure pork sausage. Two hundred three cases will be delivered, adding up to the promised one tonne. The sausage was added to the meals provided by the Centre of Hope, which feeds 300 people a day. Also, a portion of it will be used for our annual Salvation Army Hope in the City Breakfast on November 13th, 2019

“Every year, we commit to making a one-tonne pork sausage donation to an organization that helps those who are struggling with hunger and in life. This year, we have chosen to support The Salvation Army, recognizing the major renovation they have undertaken and to assist with the growing need for emergency food assistance,” says Susan Riese of Manitoba Pork.

Most recently, Manitoba Pork lent a hand by donating about 200 kilograms of fresh pork roasts, which were used to make pulled pork for The Salvation Army Winnipeg Centre of Hope ribbon-cutting ceremony – an additional food donation that helped feed nearly 1500 people.

“On behalf of our farmers who produce a high quality, nutrient-rich protein for Manitobans, Canadians and consumers around the world, we recognize the importance of investing in our communities. Through our donations of fresh and processed pork products, we hope to give those in need a hand up as they work to transition to a better life,” Riese says.
