WINNIPEG, MB – Thanks to The Winnipeg Foundation, Southlands Community Church of The Salvation Army has been enjoying a couple of brand new basketball nets to help keep the kids who use the facility having fun and staying active.

The Winnipeg Foundation purchased two heavy-duty, portable Basketball nets for the youth at Southlands Community Church of The Salvation Army, which are heavy-duty and portable, so they can be used in the facility’s indoor gymnasium during the colder months or when it’s raining, and easily moved outdoors during more favourable weather.

“The Winnipeg Foundation is happy that we are able to support the purchase of these basketball nets,” said Neneth Bañas, community grants associate with The Winnipeg Foundation. “This contribution will enhance the after school drop in program here at Southlands allowing more recreational opportunities for children and youth living in this area.”

The Southlands neighbourhood has a high population of newcomers to Canada, and the Salvation Army facility is the only community centre within reasonable distance, making it an ideal place for children to spend their time during the summer or after school hours, where parents can feel assured of their safety and supervision.

The Salvation Army in Winnipeg extends its gratitude to The Winnipeg Foundation for this generous and meaningful donation, and appreciation on behalf of the families and youth who depend on Southlands facility’s resources.
