Thanks to The Winnipeg Foundation, the Salvation Army’s Winnipeg Booth Centre has purchased a 2017 Fleet Chevrolet Express Cargo Van.

This van is a key tool for facilitating operations on behalf of the people we serve at the Booth Centre, being used primarily to acquire larger donations that require pick up. These gifts consist of food bank donations, office furniture donations, major home furnishings, Christmas support donations for residents, as well as pick up of larger items needed for the facility such as building materials, etc.

The goals for this vehicle are to:

    • Optimize our ability to secure and retrieve donation opportunities
    • Reduce unnecessary delivery charges
    • Serve as a back-up vehicle in the event that critical service vehicles are temporarily out of service
    • Support the wider needs of the community by providing an alternative transport resource in the event of an incident requiring community response

“Having this well designed vehicle makes a significant impact to our very tight not-for-profit budget,” says Major Rod Bungay, executive director of the Winnipeg Booth Centre. “Funds saved by not having to rent vehicles or hire outside drivers enables us to direct those savings back into our front line programs that support the people we serve.”

The financial support of The Winnipeg Foundation has provided us with another tool to serve our community, and we are so thankful for this donation as it allows us to continue to Give Hope Today and every day.

The Winnipeg Foundation is a public charitable organization, built through generous gifts of all sizes that are pooled and permanently invested. The interest earned from these endowments generates a sustainable source of support for local charitable projects. In 2017, they received $42.4 million in gifts and granted $38.1 million to the community. To learn more about making a gift to the community, please visit www.wpgfdn.org
