Winnipeg, MB – CTV, The Salvation Army and Scotiabank want to say a heartfelt Thank You Winnipeg!

This year’s Toy Mountain campaign raised a total of $327,593.29 in toy and cash donations. This translated into more than 16,000 toys for children in need here in Winnipeg.

“For many families helped by The Salvation Army here in Winnipeg, they face a difficult decision between keeping the lights on and giving their child a Christmas gift,” says Jonathan Hamel, The Salvation Army Prairie Division. “The Salvation Army believes every child deserves to experience the wonder and magic of the Christmas Season. With our partners and the support of Winnipeggers, this year’s Toy Mountain campaign raised a total of $327,593.29 in toys and cash donations. This assured the many families and children who look to The Salvation Army for assistance during the holidays were able to celebrate a very Merry Christmas.”

All funds raised during the campaign go directly to helping The Salvation Army ensure no child goes without during the holiday season.

“It was heartwarming to see the bright faces and reactions of the families who came to select a toy for their child at Toy Mountain,” says Mark Young, Executive Director of The Salvation Army Weetamah Centre. “When these parents who have very little to offer their children during the holidays saw the wonderful toys donated by their community, many were overwhelmed by the generosity. They were relieved and excited to know that their child would experience the joy of receiving a gift on Christmas morning.”

This year’s Toy Mountain campaign was presented by CTV and made possible by the generosity of Scotiabank, including the use of their branches for drop off points and for providing over 100 volunteers throughout the campaign. The Salvation Army would also like to thank our other partners who included Winnipeg Fire and Paramedic Services, Winnipeg Retired Firefighters, Winnipeg Police Services and the many people who supported the campaign with toy and cash donations. Thank you as well to the staff and customers of Ikea Winnipeg who donated 1800 toys to the campaign. We would also like to acknowledge the support and assistance of the Winnipeg Jets, Downtown Biz and all the performers at our Skywalk Christmas Party. Finally, a big thank you to the volunteers who helped collect, distribute and wrap toys during the Toy Mountain campaign and at the Toy Centre. Without the support of these and the people of Winnipeg, Toy Mountain would not have been a success.
