The Salvation Army is proud to officially open the Family Services Unit in Kindersley.

The centre, located at 108 Railway Ave W, will contribute such things as emergency assistance, food, furniture, counseling, hampers, toy distribution and more.

Majors Len and Ros Millar were appointed at the end of June 2012 to consolidate its work in the community, expand its presence, and explore new opportunities to partner with others.

“The Salvation Army has made a commitment to growing and supporting the citizens in the Kindersley region,” says Len Millar. “The Family Services Unit will provide hope and dignity and help marginalized and vulnerable citizens in time of need.”

Family Services will do its work inside The Salvation Army Thrift Store. The new offices will allow for both effective and efficient delivery of services.

“For some time people didn’t know if they got help from The Salvation Army Thrift Store or somewhere else.. and often they had to wait for assistance,” says Millar. “Under one roof we can respond quickly. If individuals need emergency services such as clothing, furniture or food we can do it all out of this office.”

One of the first major initiatives the Millars will undertake in Kindersley is a school feeding program called “Sally Snacks” – providing kids in need (both elementary and high school) with items such as cheese and crackers, juice, and fruit cups.
