Regina, SK – It’s that time of year again when parents stock pile school supplies for their children. Unfortunately, The Salvation Army (TSA) is witnessing more families who can’t even afford to do that. That’s why, in Regina, The Salvation Army is asking for the public’s support.

TSA is encouraging people to donate a backpack filled with school supplies to help students in need as they prepare to go back to class.

Donations can include basics such as backpacks, notebooks, pencils, pens, markers, math sets — to more complex supplies like flash drives.

“Not all families can afford these simple tools many of us take for granted,” says Salvation Army Haven of Hope Community Ministries Executive Director Major Doug Binner. “The Salvation Army is receiving requests every day and we want to ensure that we have the supplies on hand to meet the need. The key is to ensure that every child has the tools necessary to succeed at school and in life.”

Donors can drop off supplies at Regina Haven of Hope Community Ministries on 2240 13th Avenue (corner of 13th and Lorne St.), The Salvation Army Glencairn Thrift Store or Albert Street Thrift Store.

The Salvation Army hopes to collect 150 bags in Regina by the September long weekend. Community Ministries handed out 120 bags in 2011.
