Winnipeg, MB – The Salvation Army wishes to advise the general public that the Masquerade for Dignity Gala scheduled for May 24th, 2012 at The Gates on Roblin has been cancelled.

“Unfortunately we have not been able to secure enough interest for the event to make it viable,” explains Tsungai Muvingi – Special Events Coordinator, The Salvation Army Prairie East, “The primary purpose of the event was to tell the story of The Salvation Army in our community and to provide opportunity for people to connect with us in an interesting, relaxing atmosphere.  We also hoped to raise needed funds for our many different programs and services in the community.  The Salvation Army remains committed to giving hope and providing dignity to the members of our community that need it most.  We are looking forward to other upcoming events in which to share with our community just how their support is helping make a difference in the lives of others.”

The Salvation Army wishes to thank all those who have expressed support and purchased a ticket to the event.  Refunds will be given to all those who have purchased a ticket or sponsorship package.

A special feature of the evening was to share a unique mannequin exhibit titled “More Than You Know.”  This exhibit was created by service users of The Salvation Army. Each mannequin is a visual record of the experience of people The Salvation Army has supported in their journey to reach and attain personal dignity.

“The exhibit is an amazing expression of what dignity means to different people in our community,” says Muvingi, “It may be easy to say ‘I know what dignity does for a person; It means they gain self-respect & confidence.’ However, when you see dignity from the perspective of someone who either just gained it or from someone who built it up again, it makes you go back to the basics. You begin to realize that sometimes all it takes is a simple act to give that person a chance at life. We hope to share this wonderful exhibit with our community in the near future.”

Plans are being made to premiere the exhibit at a later date in June 2012.  In the meantime, a special sneak preview of the “More Than You Know” exhibit will take place Thursday, May 17 and Friday, May 18 in the centre court at Polo Park Shopping Centre in Winnipeg.

If anyone would like more information regarding the event cancellation or status of their refund, please call The Salvation Army at (204) 975-1033.
