    The Quiet Hero

    By: Tobie Hainstock

There are many types of heroes in the world but perhaps the most precious is the quiet hero. The person who chooses not to be front and center but quietly contributes to society through everyday living, whether through an act of kindness, a display of courage or a demonstration of generosity. The difference that these amazing people make to society is truly invaluable.

Allan Edmiston Irvine was born September 10, 1923 to Janet Edmiston Irvine and Robert George Irvine of Winnipeg, Manitoba. As a sergeant with the Royal Canadian Air Force, Mr. Irvine served from July 28th 1942 to January 15th 1945. The last years of his accountancy career were spent in the Broadway area in Saskatoon

A member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Mr. Irvine was described as a quiet man who liked to keep everything neat and orderly.

Over the years, Mr. Irvine saw that there was need in his community and decided to make a difference. His generous contributions to The Salvation Army through two annuities and his entire final estate have helped fund the many programs and services provided to the less fortunate by The Salvation Army.

Mr. Irvine passed away on July 20th 2007 but his memory lives on through the contributions he has made to make the world a better place for us all. Allan E. Irvine is truly an unsung hero.
