SASKATOON, SK – As Wollaston Lake and Hatchet Lake evacuees begin to return home, The Salvation Army in Saskatoon is ensuring that each person receives a healthy bagged lunch for the journey.

The SA also continues to serve three meals per day, plus snacks, to those who still remain at Cosmo Civic Centre and the Henk Ruys Soccer Centre.

All food has been prepared by Prairieland Park, with the SA handling transportation and service. By the time the evacuation wraps up, the SA will have served an estimated 12,600 meals and thousands more snacks.

Public Relations Representative, Jackie Kripki, says volunteers are to thank for getting the job done. “We were able to serve 2,000 or more meals per day thanks to volunteers who answered our call for help on short notice. Big thanks to media outlets, as well, for helping us get the word out so quickly.”

The SA is also responsible for providing clothing, and many evacuees were invited to Salvation Army Thrift Stores to “shop” for necessary items. Nearly $8,000 worth of clothing was provided free of charge to evacuees, many of whom were forced from home without much more than what they were wearing.

The Salvation Army will continue to serve as needed until the last evacuee has returned home.
