The Spectra Community foundation Inc recently presented the Estevan Salvation Amy with funds to purchase three new upright energy efficient freezers for the Salvation Army food bank. The new freezers will replace seven energy consuming chest freezers, the oldest of which was 27 years old.

The presentation was made at the food bank by Garry Hammett (Chair of the Spectra Community Foundation Inc) and Tami Scott (Executive Vice- President for Marketing and HR, Spectra Credit Union). Major Len Millar accepted the donation on behalf of The Salvation Army, stating that the donation was a valuable addition to the food bank, and that by partnering with the Salvation Army, the Foundation has helped our efforts in effectively meeting the needs of our clients in Estevan and area.

Currently the food bank assists 250 – 300 people per month, providing clients with necessary nutritional food, and at the same time allowing them to maintain their dignity and self respect as they temporarily provide for themselves and their families in this way. Last year alone, the Food Bank provided more than $ 53,000 worth of food to it’s clients.

Since its inception in 2008, the Spectra Community Foundation Inc has been partnered with local community groups, totaling 114 projects, and having sharing more than $ 1.2 million in funds.
