The Salvation Army World Missions works alongside colleagues in the developing world, to fund projects that are holistic in nature with the goal of creating sustainable growth and development. With this on their mind, Captains Robert and Laura Burrell set-out on May 21st for their 2nd annual Chaplains Walk to raise funds for World Missions. The Burrell’s believe that if everyone does something it could make a big difference. “Sometimes our contribution as an individual can be limited, but harnessing the power of many can lead to much success,” explains Cpt. Laura Burrell

The almost 16 hour journey began early morning at the Peel Women’s Counselling Centre located in Mississauga, ON. The planned route included several visits to The Salvation Army’s emergency shelters in Peel Region; stops included the Cawthra Road Shelter, Peel Family Shelter, followed by a 21 km hike to Brampton Queen Youth Shelter, Wilkinson Road Shelter and the last stop – the Family Life Resource Centre. The Chaplains Walk successfully raised $1,735.00, which will go directly to World Missions.

“I can’t tell you how impressive this was for all of us,” explains Fran Kane – Executive Director at Peel Shelter & Housing Services. “Some of us walked with them for a while, but in the end it was just Robert and Laura – sore and tired. It is truly an exhausting undertaking! Their dedication and commitment to this great cause is indeed inspiring and we are all so impressed.”

Congratulations Captains Robert and Laura for achieving this goal.
