On Thursday, April 4th, 2019, The Salvation Army in Northumberland officially launched their Community Mobile Outreach Program. In partnership with local agencies and volunteers, this program will reach out and serve residents of Northumberland County who require social services, especially in the late evenings.

“The goal of this program is to extend our Community and Family Services programs to all residents of Northumberland County,” says Edward Nkyi, Community and Family Services Director of The Salvation Army Northumberland. With a majority of social service and community centres’ hours of operation ceasing between 4 and 5 p.m., many employed individuals will not be able to access much-needed services. “Our Community Response Vehicle (CRV) will be servicing towns between 4 – 7:40 p.m.,” says Edward. “This means that those who require social services will have the opportunity to access our community services programs in the evening hours.”

Though at first sight, the CRV may seem like a regular feeding truck, Edward explains that it is quite the opposite. Rather, it is an extension of The Salvation Army’s Community and Family Services. The program will offer services including but not limited to:

-Food and Hydration Services
-Homelessness Assistance (shelter, motel, transportation)
-Health Bank Assistance (assistance with prescription drugs, dental care and optical needs)
-Seasonal Clothing Assistance (coats, pants, mitts, gloves, socks, etc)
-Emergency Transportation Services
-Emergency Disaster and Relief Services

Edward is inviting local services and agencies to join efforts with The Salvation Army to serve residents of Northumberland County. “This isn’t just a Salvation Army program,” says Edward, “It is a partnership with the community. Through the generosity of our wonderful neighbours, we are able to launch this program and reach those who need our services the most.”
