Christmas isn’t easy for everyone which is why The Salvation Army EtobicokeTemple offers Christmas assistance to families who may be struggling in the community. Every year, the church hosts a toy drive over the holiday season. After collecting the toys, they are sorted into age groups and organized in a store-like setting for parents and guardians to ‘shop’ for their children.

As families registered at the church and waited outside the gymnasium for their turn to pick gifts for their loved ones, a special guest made an appearance, Ontario Premier Doug Ford! After being greeted by Salvation Army members, Premier Ford offered to help a family to shop for their little ones.

“The Salvation Army is the greatest organization in the world,” says Premier Ford, “They have been in the Rexdale community for over 50 years and they are giving back to some of those most needy people in society.”

Christmas is just around the corner; unfortunately not every family is able to experience the many joys of the holiday season. For some children, the gifts they receive on Christmas morning represent more than just toys. They represent, hope for a better tomorrow, hope for new beginnings and hope for a brighter future.

“I want to encourage everyone across the country to go into your local Salvation Army and volunteer or drop off a toy.”
