Tense muscles, a pounding heart, frustration, and irritation. These are all common indications of anger and are signs that something isn’t right. Anger is a natural human emotion but when it is uncontrolled, this powerful expression can be problematic.

Twice a year, for seven weeks, The Salvation Army’s Northridge Community Church holds a faith supported anger management program that teaches individuals strategies to keep their anger at bay. Whether someone is dealing with difficulties in their employment, family relationships or social situations, this program provides short and long-term resolutions.

“Anger isn’t necessarily a bad thing and we want our participants to know that,” says Geof, Program Facilitator, “Everyone experiences anger but it is what they do with the anger that defines whether it is a negative or positive experience.”

Taking Control

Anger can take many different forms and can negatively impact an individual’s physical health, emotional well-being and personal relationships. During the sessions, participants are taught management techniques, triggers and conflict solving skills. Participants are also encouraged to ask themselves, “What can I do when I am faced with my trigger?”

“This program is a lot about self-discovery,” explained Geof, “We teach participants how to not let their anger control them and ways to prevent angry feelings.”

Finding Support

Dealing with anger isn’t easy but Northridge’s anger management program strives to provide individuals with personal growth, healing and more importantly with love and support. From teenagers, seniors and even families, everyone is welcome to join the program.

“The doors of our church are always open. If anyone is looking for a community to support them, we are always there.”
