Toronto/York Region – On Thursday, September 22, 2011 at 4:00pm, The Salvation Army of Central York Region will celebrate the ‘Hope for Others’ Ground Breaking Ceremony at 15338 Leslie Street, Aurora, to acknowledge the lead and pace setting gifts for the ‘Hope for Others’ Campaign.

As one of the largest social service agencies in Central York Region, The Salvation Army assists thousands of people each year with basic necessities such as food, clothing and shelter – along with new necessities including advocacy and relevant programs to help people overcome emotional and social obstacles. The needs of our community are growing and the need for a larger facility to continue serving our citizens has grown right along with it.

“The Salvation Army is thankful to the countless donors, community partners, volunteers and employees who have made this project possible.”  Said Lt.-Colonel (Dr.) Susan van Duinen, Divisional Commander of The Salvation Army Ontario Central East Division.  “The Salvation Army’s new facility in Central York Region will be a place of transformation for the communities in which it serves.  This facility will become a place of hope and dignity for all who walk through its doors.”

“Our communities need the valued services and outreach programs provided by The Salvation Army and this new facility will provide the space to accommodate these growing needs for our residents. It is the stepping stone to a better tomorrow for those who need a helping hand.” Mayor Tony Van Bynen, Mayor, Town of Newmarket

“It is very reassuring to know that organizations like The Salvation Army are here to provide those very special services that are needed in our community,” said Geoffrey Dawe, Mayor of Aurora. “On behalf of Council and the residents of Aurora, I wish The Salvation Army much success as it breaks new ground as part of its Hope for Others campaign.”

“This new facility is an important addition to our communities, a place where those in need can come for the services that will help them continue to be contributing members of society. As we break ground, we are building a better tomorrow for our citizens and for ourselves.” Virginia Hackson, Mayor, Town of East Gwillimbury
