TORONTO, Nov. 18 /CNW/ – Desperate times equal desperate measures, says, Captain John Murray of The Salvation Army as reports of a “Salvation Army Santa”, an unauthorized individual going door-to-door trying to collect donations in North York, Ontario has been reported. “In tough economic times, people will resort to all means of trying to make a buck and some prey on the kindness of unsuspecting individuals in our community.” As the Christmas fundraising season approaches, The Salvation Army would like to remind the public of its donation solicitation guidelines.

The Salvation Army solicits donations through its direct mail program, Santa Shuffle Family fun run and the iconic Christmas Kettles located in shopping malls and stores across the GTA. Donations are also accepted on-line at SalvationArmy.ca or at 1-800-SAL-ARMY. The Salvation Army is also using an out-bound call program this holiday season to connect with its supporters across the GTA and Eastern Ontario. Individuals are not authorized to solicit donations door to door for, or on behalf of The Salvation Army. If you are solicited at your door please DO NOT DONATE, as this is not an authorized request. Instead direct your gift to a local Christmas Kettle or donate on-line at SalvationArmy.ca
