For more than 30 years, Josie Myles has been a familiar face on Wiarton\u2019s main street. As the owner of Josie\u2019s Fashions, josiesonline.ca and Symon Says, a local Canadian-made gift shop, Myles has spent decades investing in the community she proudly calls home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A fourth-generation business owner in Wiarton, Ontario, Myles believes strong communities are built when people support one another. That belief is one of the reasons she continues to support The Salvation Army\u2019s work in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n\u201cI\u2019m always blown away at how much our little town\u2019s Salvation Army does.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe amount of good they accomplish with relatively limited resources is incredible.\u201d says Myles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Myles\u2019 connection to the organization deepened after attending a recent donor appreciation event, where staff shared stories about local programs and the lives that have been transformed through support, encouragement, and hope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One program that particularly resonated with her was Trade Start, a unique initiative that helps at-risk youth and young adults gain skills, confidence, and employment opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI remember hearing from one participant years ago who said the program gave them hope,\u201d Myles recalls. \u201cThat has always stayed with me.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\nTo see people move forward, find employment, continue their education, and become productive members of society is remarkable.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
For Myles, programs like Trade Start demonstrate how a relatively simple concept can have a profound impact. \u201cReally, that one-on-one support can change someone\u2019s whole future,\u201d she says. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n\u201cYou\u2019re helping people become productive members of society instead of falling through the cracks.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
What impresses Josie most is the dedication of the people behind these life-changing programs. \u201cAs a person looking from the outside, it could look simple\u201d she says. \u201cBut I know it\u2019s not. It\u2019s tons of man-hours and people who are so passionate about what they do.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That commitment is one of the reasons she continues to support The Salvation Army. \u201cThe one thing about your Salvation Army is it directly supports your clients,\u201d says Myles. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n\u201cYou can see the impact it has on people and families in our community.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
The stories shared at the event reinforced what Josie already believed\u2014that The Salvation Army\u2019s impact extends far beyond what many people realize.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cPeople might know about the food bank or Christmas assistance, but there\u2019s so much more happening,\u201d she says. \u201cWhether it\u2019s helping families, supporting children, providing pathways out of addiction, or programs like Trade Start, they\u2019re changing lives every day.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As someone who has spent her life in Wiarton, Myles is passionate about supporting organizations that strengthen the community she loves. \u201cI\u2019m a huge community person,\u201d she explains. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n\u201cI love seeing people succeed, and I love seeing organizations that genuinely care about helping others.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
What stands out most to her is the dignity and respect The Salvation Army offers to every person who walks through its doors. \u201cThey make people feel valued,\u201d she says. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n\u201cThey help restore hope and remind people that they matter. That\u2019s incredibly important.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
Through personal donations, support of local fundraising events, and community initiatives, Myles continues to champion The Salvation Army\u2019s mission and encourage others to learn more about the work being done locally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For her, giving is about making a difference close to home. \u201cIf I can help in even the tiniest way, I\u2019m happy to be part of it,\u201d she says. \u201cWhen you see the impact these programs have on people\u2019s lives, you know your support is making a difference.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One moment from the donor appreciation event has stayed with her ever since. She remembers hearing a former program participant say, \u201cI didn\u2019t have hope. It gave me hope.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n\u201cI\u2019ll never forget that,\u201d says Myles.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
For her, that simple statement captures the importance of The Salvation Army\u2019s work. Behind every program, every donation, and every volunteer hour is an opportunity to help someone find hope, rebuild their confidence, and create a better future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
By sharing her story, Myles hopes more people will learn about the programs and services available and recognize the important role they play in helping individuals and families build brighter futures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is that hope\u2014and the life-changing impact it has on individuals, families, and the entire community\u2014that continues to inspire Myles\u2019 support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
