{"id":3059,"date":"2025-05-09T13:43:51","date_gmt":"2025-05-09T13:43:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/salvationarmy.ca\/ontario\/?p=3059"},"modified":"2025-05-26T11:27:12","modified_gmt":"2025-05-26T11:27:12","slug":"innovative-partnership-helps-provide-the-most-vulnerable-with-medical-support","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/salvationarmy.ca\/ontario\/2025\/05\/innovative-partnership-helps-provide-the-most-vulnerable-with-medical-support\/","title":{"rendered":"Innovative Partnership Helps Provide the Most Vulnerable with Medical Support"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Struggling to afford critical medical supplies can be overwhelming, but help is available for Sarnia residents thanks to a funding partnership with United Way of Sarnia-Lambton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>The Emergency Medical program helps cover the cost of essential prescriptions and medical equipment, ensuring that residents of Sarnia-Lambton don\u2019t have to choose between their health and their basic needs.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe see a lot of individuals who don\u2019t have any way to cover these expenses,\u201d says Krystal Thomson, community and family services manager with The Salvation Army Sarnia Community Church. \u201cThey are barely paying for rent and groceries, and then they also have this medical expense, and they wonder, \u2018How am I going to come up with the money?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The program covers a range of medical needs, including prescription medication, glasses, shoulder braces, CPAP machines, and other essential equipment. Given their high cost, wheelchairs and power scooters can be partially funded. With United Way\u2019s support, the program assists 48 people annually, providing up to $200 per person to help offset medical expenses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Krystal says the program often leads to conversations about additional needs for transformational support through The Salvation Army.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThese include referrals to the food bank, assistance through our Pathway of Hope program, or financial support with monthly rent, mortgage, and utility bills,\u201d she explains. \u201cWe walk alongside them to learn of ways we can support people to achieve a fully functioning, independent life.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Salvation Army Sarnia corps officer Captain Brad Webster says it\u2019s about more than just financial aid\u2014it builds lasting relationships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cPeople know that this is the place to go where they can receive help, but also compassion. You\u2019re not just another individual to us. You\u2019re a member of our community,\u201d Captain Webster explains.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The Salvation Army is committed to treating everyone with care, dignity, and respect.
