Forget the field of dreams, this summer it is the Field of Greens at The Salvation Army\u2019s Thunder Bay Journey to Life Centre.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Gardeners are tending to fresh vegetables this summer in the Field of Greens, in partnership with the Port Arthur Rotary Club. The garden will soon be filled with healthy and nutritious vegetables for residents at the Journey to Life Centre, much of it planted by residents themselves. The Port Arthur Rotary Club is a long-time supporter of Field of Greens and provides the funds for raised beds, plants, seeds, and soil.<\/p>\n

Journey to Life program participant Bruno has started growing plants in his room to be transplanted to the Field of Greens once the weather warms up. Residents say they enjoy the distraction of the garden to reduce the stresses of the day, the soothing relaxation and how gardening provides them a sense of purpose.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cThis program provides important and useful\u00a0life skills to the residents that they can take with them once they have moved on from the centre to a life of independence,\u201d says Journey to Life Centre Executive Director Gary Ferguson.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u201cField of Green teaches people how to work as a team, promotes effective communication, and encourages a supportive environment toward a common goal. We are thankful for the support of our service partners at the Port Arthur Rotary Club.\u201d<\/p>\n
