Egobure Nnoroh is reaching her education goals because of the support of The Salvation Army Pathway of Hope program at the Agincourt Community Church.<\/p>\n
She first heard about the program from a poster she saw during a Salvation Army church service.<\/p>\n
\u201cI didn\u2019t know anything about it, but it sounded so good,\u201d she said. \u201cAt the time I was studying math, English, chemistry and biology, but it was so overwhelming because I also had 4 children going to school.\u00a0 I really needed someone to talk to, someone to tell me to keep going.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Pathway of Hope program focuses on helping people out of poverty by examining its root cause. The program works one on one with participants and offers targeted services and encouragement to people as they work towards both short and long-term goals.<\/p>\n
\u201cPathway of Hope is a program that comes alongside people that use our food bank and other resources and helps them to break that cycle of poverty that they find themselves potentially stuck in,\u201d said Nathan Amell, Pathway of Hope Caseworker with The Salvation Army Agincourt Community Church.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe first thing Nathan did was ask me \u2018What are your goals? What do you want to achieve?\u2019\u00a0 I told him I wanted to go back to school,\u201d\u00a0 said Egobure.<\/p>\n
\u201cI put my goals out there and he had me come up with objectives. He walked me through that and didn\u2019t relent. He called me three times a week for six months to ask if I was achieving my objectives and I came out victorious!\u00a0 I got into college, and I was so happy,\u201d she smiled. \u201cIt was a time in my life where I just needed that kind of support, and I got it.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cSome people just need help when they are\u00a0 trying to map out their future. We see true transformative hope when a team comes together and surrounds an individual or family with prayer, with their time and love,\u201d said Nathan.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen I say to people at The Pathway of Hope that I am fine. They say, \u2018In what ways are you fine?\u2019 They go that extra mile just to make me feel human and feel loved and they really helped me achieve my hearts desire,\u201d said Egobure.<\/p>\n
