Seven companies built and engineered their designs using food that was then donated to the local Salvation Army Food Bank.<\/p>\n<p><img class=\" wp-image-9289 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/salvationarmy.ca\/ontario\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/10\/4-768x1024-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"239\" height=\"319\" \/>\u201cWe\u2019ve seen a measurable increase in food bank visits by families and individuals. They are finding themselves having to choose between buying groceries or paying rent,\u201d said Rebecca Thiessen, Integrated Missions Manager with The Salvation Army London Community and Family Services.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is challenging to come out of a\u00a0pandemic in a healthy and successful way and we are doing our best to support these families so that they can thrive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 30,000 cans of food used in the building were donated to the Food Bank to fill the shelves for those in need in London. A judging panel voted on award winners and the public could vote with a donation for the People\u2019s Choice award for their favourite design, which raised $1,320.<\/p>\n<p>The winning designs are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Judge&#8217;s Choice &#8211; &#8220;Team Matter &#8211; We Can Van&#8221; &#8211; Matter Architectural Studio Inc.<\/li>\n<li>Best Original Design &#8211; &#8220;Team Matter &#8211; The Can Van&#8221; &#8211; Matter Architectural Studio Inc.<\/li>\n<li><img class=\"size-medium wp-image-9285 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/salvationarmy.ca\/ontario\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/10\/2-768x1024-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/>Best Use of Labels &#8211; &#8220;An Open Door&#8221; atLINK Architecture<\/li>\n<li>Best Meal &#8211; &#8220;We Can Solve It&#8221; Gray &amp; Fick<\/li>\n<li>Structural Ingenuity &#8211; &#8220;Raising A Community&#8221; VanBoxmeer &amp; Stranges Ltd. Structural Engineers<\/li>\n<li>Most Cans Used &#8211; \u201cA Perspective of Hunger: HOPE&#8221; by Nicholson Sheffield Architects<\/li>\n<li>People&#8217;s Choice\u00a0 &#8211; \u201cRubble the Pup\u201d SBM Engineering<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Steve Desjardine and the team from Gray &amp; Fick Structural Engineering built a Rubik\u2019s Cube from 4500 cans, 270 boxes of spaghetti and 50 egg noodle pouches.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis food will go to the Centre of Hope to fill their shelves and that&#8217;s one of the areas that we focus on as a company as part of our core values.
