The Salvation Army\u2019s Food Truck is on the road in Niagara Falls serving the local community with the help of mission partners.\u00a0 Thanks to donations and support from local businesses, The Salvation Army has been providing weekly meals in four locations since May.<\/p>\n

The generosity from service partners such as The Lions Club, The Red Knights Retired Firefighters Motorcycle Club Niagara Chapter, Thorowest Bakery who donates 100 sub buns every week, The Meat Shoppe who donates deli meats and cheese once a month, Lococo\u2019s who gives a box of fruit each week and Foodland in Chippawa who donates a variety of food items each month.<\/p>\n

Since starting up the truck in late May, the number of meals has grown to 100 a week.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor the summer we are serving cold meals such as subs, salads and hearty sandwiches with fruit and water or coffee and a sweet treat. This is due to the heat and we are training many new mission partners,\u201d said Salvation Army Niagara Orchard Community Church Major Nancy Braye. \u201cWe will start serving hot meals in the Fall which will be made in our church kitchen.\u201d<\/p>\n

Major Nancy says when the truck started serving this Spring they received a very warm welcome.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere were a lot of smiles and people saying how happy they were to see us. Many of those who come for meals are seniors who sit and chat with us while they eat their meal. It\u2019s not just about a meal – it\u2019s also about connection. Others who come are homeless or at risk of being homeless, are underemployed and or have physical and mental health issues. We are seeing people in their teens all the way up to their late 80\u2019s.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNiagara Falls is a very generous community. As people are starting to see the truck, we are getting phone calls from people asking how they can help,\u201d said Major Nancy. \u201cWe are also receiving welcoming and enthusiastic greetings and it just reminds us of what a blessing this community is. We are grateful for the support from our mission partners and service partners.\u201d<\/p>\n

For those who would like to donate toward the Food Truck Ministry, The Salvation Army Niagara Orchard Community Church needs cases of bottled water , large cans of coffee and monetary donations are always appreciated so they can meet the specific needs each week.<\/p>\n
