After the past year they\u2019ve lived through, immersing young people in nature takes on an even greater importance to help them maintain a positive outlook.<\/p>\n<p>With pandemic restrictions in place, The Salvation Army Jackson\u2019s Point Camp continues to bring the camp experience to those who would otherwise be unable to attend camp.<\/p>\n<p>JPC Adventure Days is a free one-day, in person session, running Tuesday to Thursday from July 6 to August 12. Day campers have access to an on-site climbing wall, bouldering area, sports court, canoeing, swimming, archery and a variety of sports and games. There is also a snack and song break around the fire before campers\u2019 head home.<\/p>\n<p>Camp Blaze is a free, online virtual session for kids aged 7-10 &#8211; also held Tuesday to Thursday from July 6 to August 12 for two hours per day with games, music, and discipleship.<a href=\"https:\/\/salvationarmy.ca\/ontario\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2021\/06\/Canoeing-JPC.jpg\"><img class=\"aligncenter wp-image-7668 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/salvationarmy.ca\/ontario\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2021\/06\/Canoeing-JPC.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"960\" height=\"403\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Leadership Development Programs Timothy 1 and Timothy 2 are also happening virtually this summer. During the six-week Timothy 1 program, campers are mentored by their peers to engage in serving the community and supporting the overseas mission work of The Salvation Army. They must have completed Grade 9 in order to participate. Timothy 2 builds on that experience for participants to grow in their relationship with God and with other participants, while developing their leadership skills. Timothy 2 participants must be finished Grade 10.<\/p>\n<p>Mark and Jodi Dunstan joined JPC as camp directors in 2019. When COVID-19 became a part of our daily lives, they were forced to rethink the entire concept of camp, while still wanting to instill campers with new skills, perspectives, and life experience.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWe want young people to know that they are valued and respected. The Salvation Army\u2019s spiritual guidance lets campers know that they are on a journey of hope,\u201d Mark says.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cWe will continue to do our best to provide a camping experience for youth across Ontario as we try to navigate the always evolving COVID-19 situation. Our primary goal is to provide hope and create memorable experiences that last a lifetime for youth in Ontario.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/salvationarmy.ca\/ontario\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2021\/06\/JPC-Mascot.jpg\"><img class=\"size-medium wp-image-7670 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/salvationarmy.ca\/ontario\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2021\/06\/JPC-Mascot.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>Micaela Rayment knows that journey well. For eight years, she worked at JCP in a range of roles, ending in the summer of 2020 when she coordinated the Timothy 2 Program. She now works for The Salvation Army Ontario Division as a Social Media Specialist.<\/p>\n<p>She said bringing a summer of fun to underprivileged children is an experience that stays with her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll you want to do is give these kids the best week of their lives.
