On the first Friday of June, for the third consecutive year in downtown London, The Salvation Army celebrated National Donut Day by handing out hundreds of free donuts outside the Covent Garden Market.

The Salvation Army created National Donut Day in 1938 to honour the “Donut Lassies” who served fresh donuts to soldiers on the front lines during WWI.

Roughly 600 donuts were given out to commemorate this special day.

“The donut is a symbol of our history and a small gesture to show our appreciation to the servicemen and women.” – Major Pat Phinney

Thank you to our community partners; Classic Rock 98.1, Covent Garden Market and Downtown London Super Guides.

We especially want to thank Rundle’s No Frills in London for providing the delicious treats in order to celebrate this special day.
