For the 3rd consecutive summer, the Ontario Great Lakes Division has operated a “Camp at Home” program for children who are not able to attend traditional camp settings.  Camp at Home is an all day, week long program that leads children ages 6 – 12 in Bible teaching, crafts, singing, sports, games. In addition, several Corps made arrangements for the children along with the Camp at Home team to participate in activities such as swimming, hiking, and even horseback riding!  The 2012 team was led by Shelley Oseil from Mountain Citadel in Hamilton and visited seven Corps in the OGL Division – Sault Ste. Marie, Khi Community Church in Milton, Winterberry Heights and Meadowlands in Hamilton, Hillcrest Community Church and Westminster Park Corps in London and Wiarton Community Church.

On June 29th the team set out for their first week of camp in northern Ontario and recount that the road trips were some of the best parts of the summer.  There was a lot of singing, laughing, eating, a little “off-roading” and even a few U-turns along the way.  During the seven weeks that the team was together, they were able to minister to over 260 children along with the help of the Corps Officers and local volunteers.

Many of the children who attended the Camp at Home program in each community were hearing about God’s love for the first time and it was amazing to see how He worked in their lives even in a short time period.  It was very heartwarming for the staff to see these children, who often come from very difficult home situations, opening their hearts to the love and care they were shown throughout the week together.
