A Christmas Tradition – The Salvation Army Prepares to Serve 1000 Christmas Day Dinners at 789 Dovercourt Road, Toronto on December 25, 2009

TORONTO, Dec. 24 /CNW/ – A Christmas tradition continues as The Salvation Army Bloor Central Church prepares to serve 1000 Christmas Day dinners at 789 Dovercourt Road, Toronto. “For many, Christmas Day is a very lonely time and The Salvation Army is privileged to be able to share Christmas Day with community friends who otherwise would have no where to go,” says Captain John Murray, spokesperson for the organization. The 1000 dinners will be served by 200 volunteers and Salvation Army staff. “This Christmas Day tradition is replicated in cities across Canada and in many communities it is also a daily ministry of The Salvation Army,” says Captain Murray.

The Salvation Army is an international faith-based organization that began its work in Canada in 1882 and has grown to become the largest nongovernmental direct provider of social services in the country. The Salvation Army gives hope and support to vulnerable people today and everyday in 400 communities across Canada and 118 countries around the world.
