At only 16 years of age Owen Bishop has started his own non-profit organization named Runners for Runners. The organization aims to match running shoes with those in need in HRM.

The idea came to Owen while he was watching TV one afternoon and noticed an ad encouraging people to donate hockey gear for youth in need and realized that there were no initiatives like these for running. "Running is such an easy sport to participate in, all you need is a pair of sneakers, so I looked to see if there was a need for sneakers and I found that there was, so I decided that I wanted to do something about it," says Owen.

Owen began collecting shoes in the spring, bringing his large purple bin to various youth races in the Maritimes and encouraging people to donate. He has been very successful already receiving a humanitarian award from his school Armbrae Academy. Owen was at The Salvation Army back to school program pickup and was able to match over 100 pairs of shoes with children for the upcoming school year. This was his first large giveaway, but he’s excited about what the future holds and to work with The Salvation Army to match shoes with those in need.

Thanks again for your help Owen, we are excited to work with you in the future!
