It’s beginning to look and feel a lot like Christmas, especially after hosting two Beary Merry Christmas Concerts in the Maritime Division. This week in Halifax at the Rebecca Cohn just under 1,000 people packed the auditorium to listen to festive music and kick off this year’s Christmas season.

With Mistress of Ceremonies and soloist Liz Rigney, soloist Michelle Durling, The Stadacona Band of The Royal Canadian Navy and the Cantatrice Ensemble Girl’s Honour Choir, the night was a hit for all who attended.

At the concert 550 bears were collected and just under 200 toys for children in need this Christmas season. “A huge thank you to everyone for their support, without donations at Christmas we wouldn’t be able to help families who need it most,” said Vaden Vincent, executive director at the Halifax Centre of Hope.

Moncton Community and Family Services also recently hosted a Beary Merry Christmas Concert with over 300 in attendance and over 200 bears collected at the Riverview Arts Centre. The concert also served as a kickoff for their Christmas Kettle season. There was tri-city representation from the Mayor of Riverview, Ann Seamans and councillors from The City of Dieppe and Moncton.

"This year’s Beary Merry Christmas Concert was extra special and served as the ideal venue to raise awareness of The Salvation Army's work, celebrating 130 years of service in Greater Moncton this year." said Natasha Burkett, director of community and family services in Moncton. “We’d like to thank everyone for their continued support, especially at such a busy time of year.”
