This is a guest post by Lieutenant Sarah Braye – Sarah is a follower of Christ and desires to inspire people. She's a dreamer and believes that the impossible is possible. Sarah is Lieutenant of Saint John Hope Community Church.

“A hero can be anyone. Even a man doing something as simple and reassuring as putting a coat around a little boy’s shoulder to let him know the world hadn’t ended.” Batman

This quote is a great reminder that we all have the ability to be a hero; simple acts of kindness with the intent of making the world a better place. There is hope in little things; and when all seems lost, or it feels like life gets us nowhere, there is always hope.

As I look back on this first year at Saint John Hope Community Church I have experienced the difference that a small act of kindness can do for a person, such as: handing a person a cup of coffee, playing a game of pool and even just taking the time to pray with an individual.

Moments like these remind me that there is still goodness in this world. I have built relationships, and that’s what life is all about. I have come to understand people, not just for their past, or present, but for their humanity and the person that I believe that they can become.

Each one of us has the ability to be a transforming influence in our communities. If we genuinely love and accept all people, we are not only welcoming them into a caring community, but we are inviting them closer to Christ. Isn’t that we are all about? Yes, we meet human needs, but we must never forget about salvation.

We were all born with the ability to change someone’s life, so I challenge you to start engaging in simple acts of kindness that will brighten everyone’s day!
