The roads around Summerside, PEI, will be filled with motorcycles on Sunday, as the second annual Charity Memorial Ride in support of The Salvation Army Community and Family Services takes place.

The ride, sponsored by the PEI HOG Chapter (Harley Owners Group) hopes to build on momentum from their inaugural ride, which saw over 180 participants on more than 120 motorcycles raise over $3,000 for Summerside CFS.

The ride serves as an annual tribute for love ones lost. Two such examples are cited on the event’s poster: Yvette Arsenault, a woman from nearby St. Phillipe, PEI, who died in a motorcycle accident near Bedeque, and Paul MacLean, of Hunter River, PEI, who was killed in a motorcycle accident north of Charlottetown. Both accidents occurred in 2010, and served as motivating factors to create the event last year.

“Last year was a great first edition and we’re looking for it to be even bigger this time around,” says Marj Montgomery, coordinator of Summerside CFS.

Registration begins at 11 a.m. at Credit Union Place in Summerside, with the ride set to kick off at 1 p.m. Cost is $20 for a motorcycle and $5 for a passenger, with proceeds going to help those in need in the community. The ride will head out through Prince County before returning to Credit Union Place for a celebratory barbecue.
