The threat of rain did little to dampen the enthusiasm in Prince Edward Island this past weekend, as the rolling roads played host to the second annual charity memorial motorcycle ride in support of The Salvation Army.

Nearly 100 bikes gathered for the ride, which serves as a memorial to fallen fellow motorcycle enthusiasts Paul MacLean and Yvette Arsenault, a pair of Islanders who were killed in separate motorcycle accidents in 2010.

The day began at Credit Union Place in Summerside before heading out on a 191 km tour of the scenic Island countryside. The rain did eventually fall on the riders, but only briefly, before the bikes returned to Credit Union Place at the conclusion of the ride for a celebratory barbecue.

All told, the participants raised $3,100, which will go to Summerside Community and Family Service, and continue to help people in need throughout Prince County.

Thanks to the PEI HOG Chapter (Harley Owners Group), who served as the event’s sponsor, as well as all of the participants for making this annual event a great success.
