During spring break, The Salvation Army\u2019s Surrey Ministries<\/a>, led by Majors Glynden and Diane Cross, hosted a vibrant family event that brought the community together for a day of fun, food and fellowship. Held at the Community Church in Surrey, the event was designed to provide families with an opportunity to engage in various activities and create lasting memories. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The day was packed with a variety of activities catering to all age groups. Children enjoyed games and crafts, while parents participated in interactive sessions aimed at strengthening family bonds. The atmosphere was filled with laughter and joy as families connected with one another and with members of the community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Diane Cross, Corps Officer, explained the importance of the event in the community. \u201cWe lined up the Family Event with spring break so the families could come together and create family memories together. We are focusing on that family community and then The Salvation Army community. We are hosting this event to create opportunities for the community to come together, for the community to grow together with us. We want people to come here, create a good time with their children or grandchildren, the children play, laugh, they really like it.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volunteers and The Salvation Army worked to prepare and serve meals, ensuring that everyone was well-fed. The shared meals provided a perfect setting for conversations and the building of new friendships. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aisha C., a mother of two boys who attended the event, expressed her gratitude:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt is wonderful. They have this family-friendly program during the spring break, it\u2019s a great place for young parents and all parents. It\u2019s important to have a safe and welcoming place to bring my children during spring break. The activities were engaging, and it was heartwarming to see the community come together. I truly appreciate The Salvation Army, and everyone involved for organizing such a really great day.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

In addition to the families who graced the event, the presence of two officers from the Surrey Police Community Youth Services added a special touch to the event. Melanie Ballard is a police officer working for the Surrey Police Service, a department responsible for working with young people, schools, building community engagement and being involved in a range of community programs.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI believe that engagement between the police and the community is very important, especially when families and young people are involved and feel safe talking to us, as they know that the police are part of the community too,\u201d explains Melanie. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Surrey Police Service maintains youth programs and has School Resource Officers (SROs) who work with the Surrey School District to provide policing services, enforcement, intervention and education in schools, building connections with students and administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
