It\u2019s National Volunteer Week and The Salvation Army is saying an extra special thank you to the more than 130,000 volunteers who give the priceless gift of time and skills to help them reach more people in need.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are grateful and blessed by our volunteers.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u201cOne of the greatest gifts you can give is time,\u201d says Alice Johansson, territorial manager of volunteer services. \u201cVolunteers help drive our organization\u2019s mission to give support and hope to vulnerable people. We are grateful and blessed by our volunteers.\u201d<\/p>\n

There are several ways you can help as a volunteer with The Salvation Army. They rely on volunteers from all walks of life to assist in their shelters, food banks, churches, thrift stores, social service centres and more. Depending on your interests and the skills you would like to build or share, there are a variety of opportunities.<\/p>\n

When Adrianna Fenton signed up online to volunteer with The Salvation Army, her first volunteer shift was scheduled within hours. That was two years ago.<\/p>\n

\u201cVolunteering means I can contribute to a cause that means a lot to me.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u201cMy grandfather was in the military and, after the war, The Salvation Army gave practical assistance to veterans,\u201d says Adrianna. \u201cVolunteering means I can contribute to a cause that means a lot to me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Adrianna has participated in a wide range of volunteer options with The Salvation Army in Vancouver. From bell-ringing at a Christmas kettle and sorting toys to supporting fundraising events, her dedication is restoring hope and dignity for those who need it most.<\/p>\n

\u201cVolunteering is easy because you can pick your own hours and commit when you are able,\u201d says Adrianna. \u201cThe Salvation Army helps people in all walks of life. I\u2019m truly amazed at how much they do\u2015from the most destitute to those needing one-time help. \u201cVolunteering with The Salvation Army feels good and it\u2019s rewarding to work with other loving people who want to help others and improve our communities.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of the greatest gifts you can give is time.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u201cOur volunteers are essential to what The Salvation Army can accomplish in a day,\u201d says Alice. \u201cThey are one of our biggest assets to help us operate our programs with success.\u201d<\/p>\n
