TSA recognized by Sea Cadets.
Port Alberni’s Sea Cadet Corp was visited by two members of the Canadian Forces Liaison Council (CFLC) on April 2, 2015.
CFLC members presented an employer recognition award to Captain John Cloke’s civilian employer, Major Bruce Mac Kenzie of The Salvation Army. CFLC members in attendance were Dr Skipp Triplett, a former Armoured Military Officer and former President of Kwantlen College, and Lieut-Colonel Don Stedeford, former Commanding Officer of The Canadian Scottish Regiment.
During the past three years, The Salvation Army has supported The Department of National Defence by allowing Capt Cloke time away from work in order to train cadets at Albert Head Cadet Summer Training Centre each year from Jun 15 to Aug 30. In addition, Capt Cloke attended a training writing board at the Directorate of Cadets in Ottawa and a Small Craft Operator Instructors Course in ComoxBC, taking time away from his civilian job with The Salvation Army to do so.
The CFLC is a group of Canada-wide civilian business and educational leaders who volunteer their time and efforts to promote the Reserve Military Members by highlighting the benefits of Reserve Force training and experience to the civilian workplace. They also support individual Reservists as well as Reserve Units, in matters related to employer support.
The Sea Cadet Corps is under the direction of Commanding Officer, Capt John Cloke, who is assisted by Lieut. Carson Stoney, Sub-Lieut. Meighan Hygaard, Naval Cadet Kraig Doskotch and Ms. Carlene Hygaard. The corps Senior Cadet is Petty Officer Kennedy O’Donavan.
The Sea Cadet Corps is very involved in the local community. Each year the cadets operate the Kiwanis Kitchen at Salmon Fest, raise funds for the Legion Poppy Campaign, work at the Eastern Star Bizzars and much more.
The aim of the sea cadet program is to develop in youth the attributes of good citizenship, promote physical fitness, and stimulate an interest in the Royal Canadian Navy.
