Joshua  Gonzales and Clara Van Ommen have been volunteering at The Salvation Army Vancouver Harbour Light’s food line for almost a year. Clara is in her last year of microbiology studies at UBC while Josh is studying medical radiology.

Despite their busy student  schedules, they enjoy coming to The Salvation Army Vancouver Harbour  Light and experiencing a new side to Vancouver.

They enjoy Harbour Light’s dynamic environment as well as they feel that the staff and clients are incredibly friendly and appreciative. It was important for Josh to interact with the local community and experience firsthand the struggles clients face on a day to day basis. Josh and Clara have gained a new understanding of the positive impact that rehabilitation programs can have by promoting  positive change in the lives of clients as they move through their journey.

Clara also shared her joy for her volunteer experience at The Salvation Army Vancouver Harbour Light by inviting a group of UBC resident students to participate  in a food line shift!

Last year alone 353,000 volunteer hours were contributed by British Columbians to The Salvation Army. On behalf of our 60 Salvation Army Units in British Columbia, we want to take a moment to thank Josh, Clara and the countless numbers of volunteers that help us serve the community year round!

“Leave feeling like you  really contributed.” – Clara, Harbour Light Volunteer
