Metro Vancouver Transit Police are partnering with The Salvation Army to provide support for vulnerable individuals.

The Salvation Army has generously donated 200 blankets to Transit Police that will be distributed throughout the winter season. Officers are being encouraged to stock their patrol cars at the beginning of each shift, and to hand them out to those in need throughout their day. “The blankets will provide a small measure of comfort, but will also give the officers the opportunity to offer additional help in terms of food, shelter, medical, or other practical assistance” says Transit Police Cst. Rod Pedersen.

Transit Police are happy to support The Salvation Army, and will continue to engage with those in need throughout the winter season.

The Salvation Army is an international organization that began its work in Canada in 1882 and has grown to become the largest non-governmental direct provider of social services in the country. In particular, The Salvation Army Harbour Light Vancouver is one of the largest Salvation Army operations in British Columbia and has been serving Vancouver’s Downtown East Side community for 60 years. The primary goal is to reach out to hurting people and help them become productive, contributing citizens. Harbour Light Vancouver saves lives, by helping thousands of people transform their future through a continuum of care model that facilitates the needs of the individual and the community.
