High school students from across Winnipeg are gathering at the first annual Booth University College Youth Forum on November 14 and 15 to learn about homelessness and how it impacts individuals and a community.

This two-day, 24-hour event will introduce students to the issue of homelessness through emergency shelter visits, movies, and guest speakers including Floyd Perras from Siloam Mission and Major Karen Hoeft from The Salvation Army Booth Centre.

Homelessness is an issue that is increasingly front and centre in this community, and an issue that is being considered by some local high school students in an effort to make a difference for the future.

Says Major Al Hoeft, Executive Director of The Salvation Army’s Booth Centre Ministries: “As citizens find connecting points to social issues, the issue itself can be understood on a more personal level. This is a great opportunity for students to engage in this significant community challenge.”
