Salvation Army Quebec Thrift Stores Send Kids to Summer Camp

The Salvation Army’s Camp L’Achigan, located about 50 kilometres north of Montreal, received a boost of financial support this summer thanks to generous donations collected at Salvation Army Thrift Stores in Quebec during this year’s Send a Kid to Camp fundraiser.

Earlier this month, Mark Pantrey, Quebec Retail District Manager, and Ildiko Fodor, General Manager of the Montreal-Downtown Thrift Store, were at Camp L’Achigan to present a cheque for $8,339.48.

The donation represents the full fee required for close to 38 campers to attend the Quebec camp for one week in the summer. The cheque was presented to Captain Rachele Lamont at the facility’s dining hall in front of an enthusiastic crowd of campers and staff.

“With the funds, we completely sponsored children and families to come to our different camps,” says Captain Lamont. “As well, we worked with some of The Salvation Army corps/churches in the area who had children they wanted to send, but not enough money in their budgets to do so. The funding was definitely a blessing for us all.

“All through the summer, we encounter families and children who want to come to camp but cannot because of difficult situations going on at home or financial limitations,” continues Lamont. “We also see a lot of new families to Canada that are surviving on very little.

“For these children and their families, one-week at camp is an experience of a lifetime and one that would be almost unattainable were it not for generous donations from Salvation Army supporters through campaigns like the Send a Kid to Camp fundraiser.”
