TORONTO, May 29, 2013 /CNW/ – The Salvation Army and MOLLY MAID will once again be joining forces this summer as MOLLY MAID collects non-perishable food items to help restock depleted Salvation Army food bank shelves all across Canada.

Last year, more than 1.8 million Canadians received assistance from The Salvation Army. On average, approximately one in 11 people live in poverty. MOLLY MAID and The Salvation Army recognize that poverty is a critical issue, and that everyone has a right to access basic necessities, including nutritious food. Graham Moore, Territorial Secretary for Public Relations and Development for The Salvation Army in Canada and Bermuda says, “We are thrilled and extremely appreciative for the support offered by MOLLY MAID and its wonderful customers.”

Terri Gale, Franchise Owner of MOLLY MAID Peterborough and Lindsay, Ontario, was a Salvation Army Outreach Worker in downtown Toronto for 5 years, prior to purchasing her MOLLY MAID Franchise. The Salvation Army is near and dear to her heart and Terri states, “We always participate in the Christmas in July Food Drive and each year we are delighted by the support and donations that pour in from our generous customers. Our staff collect non-perishable food items and even monetary donations after they clean the customer’s home. We believe it’s important to bring awareness to the issue of poverty and hunger and to also help out in our community.”

Franchises across the country have confirmed their participation and are collecting food and monetary donations throughout the months of June and July.

MOLLY MAID has run other supportive initiatives in the past, including the MOLLY MAID Cares Winter Coat Drive. Over the last ten years, MOLLY MAID Franchise Owners and customers have donated over 160,000 pounds of food to support The Salvation Army and other local food banks in numerous communities across the country.
