Position Purpose summary: The Youth Ministries Coordinator will develop and lead a balanced and effective ministry for children, youth, and college ages providing oversight, direction, and vision in the areas of discipleship, worship, and evangelism.



  • Coordinate and provide leadership to children and youth programming, delivering programs with a volunteer base
  • Assist with ongoing strategic planning to ensure children and youth programming reflects the needs of the corps


Coordination and Leadership of Youth Ministries program

  • Organize and oversee weekly Sunday School programming
  • Coordinate Children’s Time segment for weekly Sunday meetings
  • Organize and conduct monthly youth group activities, ensuring a spiritual component
  • Plan and guide delivery of children & youth oriented Sunday quarterly meetings
  • Plan and implement special events (Sunday School picnic, Christmas breakfast, etc.) as required
  • Organize and oversee discipleship opportunities for children and youth such as Ready-to-Serve, Bible studies, Soldiership prep classes, etc.
  • Organize and lead evangelistic programming for children and youth of our community, interacting and building relationships with children, youth and their families and encouraging involvement in existing Corps programs.(i.e. Summer VBS or ‘Camp-at-Home”)
  • Provide pastoral care for children, youth and their families including effective follow-up of absences and of spiritual decisions made by children and youth.
  • Promote and coordinate corps involvement in divisional youth events
  • Evaluate all programming and provide strategic guidance on improving, removing, and adding programs
  • Promote opportunities for children and youth to participate in all areas of corps ministry (i.e., music, etc.)
  • Create and maintain positive relationships with children and youth through regular visitation and interaction
  • Liaison with Pastoral Care Council with regard to upkeep of youth membership rolls



  • Fundraise for children and youth programming and teach financial stewardship and giving to children and youth
  • Organize and conduct Children & Youth Ministry Committee meetings
  • Network with youth workers at other Salvation Army units and community organizations on matters pertaining to children and youth ministry
  • Represent The Salvation Army, when needed, on various boards and committees
  • Process all necessary paperwork and office related duties in a timely fashion
  • Collect relevant statistical information and submit to corps office
  • Work within approved budget


Volunteer Supervision

  • Maintain an up-to-date list of current and potential volunteers and supporters
  • Recruit, train and supervise volunteers
  • Ensure volunteers participate in all mandatory training
  • Ensure volunteer screening / police checks are completed as required
  • Schedule volunteers and assign duties as necessary
  • Address volunteer concerns


Additional Responsibilities

  • Pray with and for children, youth, and families, and lead them to faith in Jesus Christ as opportunity permits
  • Help to coordinate volunteer appreciation events or other such events
  • Other duties as required





  • Diploma or degree in a related field or be able to demonstrate that he/she has obtained an equivalent body of knowledge through other training and experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of demonstrated successful involvement in working with youth
  • Passionate about the spiritual development and well-being of young people, instilling in them a love for the greater church community
  • Commitment to Christ and Christian teaching –Understanding of and adherence to The Salvation Army’s Mission, Values and Vision
  • Willingness to become an active member of the North Toronto Community Church
  • Able to represent The Salvation Army and the Christian faith in a positive/pleasant manner
  • Demonstrate a high level of spiritual maturity, integrity, and good judgment
  • Be creative, well organized and self-motivated
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills along with interpersonal and conflict management skills
  • Be a team player and able to organize and motivate teams
  • Possess excellent computer skills


Successful candidate will be required to provide upon hiring:

  • A clear vulnerable sector screening
  • A clean drivers abstract
  • Participate in our online Armatus Abuse Training and Health and Safety training required upon hiring, as well as updated annually


HOURS: 40 hours per week
