This is a temporary, full-time position based upon 35 hours per week. Flexibility in scheduling is required.  The work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor and may vary according to requirements of responsibility.  Applicable shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break.  The operational hours of this facility are 8:30 am – 4:00 pm.

Shifts: Tuesday to Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

End Date:  April 30, 2021

Responsibilities

  • Process donated items by unloading, sorting, packing, storing, loading, and bali8ng the donations; protects the integrity of the donations.
  • Assist donors with their donations, unload donations, and place stock in appropriate warehouse locations.
  • Select donations for store distribution meeting established standards of quality and distinguishing between discarded/recycled and good quality merchandise according to company standards; ensure that all products are priced correctly as per store policy.
  • Categorize and box seasonal clothing, housewares, shoes etc. for storing
  • Maintain customer service standards and provide service to donors/customers
  • Be knowledgeable regarding product pricing and featured sale products.
  • Contribute to meeting store sales targets; provide efficient courteous customer service; use tact and courtesy when dealing with difficult donors/customers.
  • Inform the Thrift Store Manager of all donor/customer complaints, comments and concerns regarding customer service etc.
  • Replenish inventory levels, i.e. hang clothing and restocking of merchandise as directed
  • Pay particular attention to store security, by monitoring activity within the store.
  • Maintain an attractive organized appearance of the warehouse area, tidy up and clean, sweep, dust and mop as necessary, both inside and the exterior donation area at the rear of the building.
  • Handle the merchandise in a safe and organized manner; assist in stock rotation – “bailing” items in the store.
  • Work with volunteers as assigned.
  • Perform other position related duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Completed Secondary School
  • Minimum of three (3) months of prior related experience in warehouse processing or goods distribution and knowledge of lifting guidelines
  • Brand awareness would be a definite asset
  • Able to stand for long periods, there is frequent twisting, bending, crouching, and reaching
  • Ability to lift/move on a regular basis up to 40 pounds
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; self-motivated and disciplined
  • With direction and support, become part of a productive team
  • Provide an original copy of a Background Check screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the National Canadian Policy Information (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.
  • May require screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
  • Support for and an understanding of the mission and the purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada.
