Position Purpose Summary:

The Warm Room Worker Cook is responsible for preparing menus and nutritious wholesome safe meals for the Warm Room. Also responsible for providing a stable compassionate environment for his/her team as well as serving a healthy      nutritious meals for the needy of our community.

 

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and preps meals for the Warm Room
  • Give oversight and supervision to the ‘Warm Room Pantry and Kitchen’
  • Have a working knowledge of other retail food stores and agencies in the community
  • Oversee and supervise all volunteers
  • Ensuring that all volunteers follow rules laid down by the Public Health Department
  • Be responsible for the upkeep, cleanliness and security of The Salvation Army facility during shift
  • Do, or supervise, light janitorial work to ensure that the building is ready for the day programs
  • Inform Food Services Coordinator of food and supplies to be ordered
  • Purchase food supplies
  • Record and maintain a log of volunteer help given, if applicable and any other statistics as requested
  • Builds menu plans and meals with Food Service Coordinator
  • Supervise and oversee all service recipients. May need to handle difficult people and situations. Ensuring everyone’s safety

Qualifications

  • Minimum College Diploma in a related field
  • 3 years’ experience in the food industry
  • In agreement with the Mission Statement of The Salvation Army
  • Compassionate and kind
  • Pleasant with a warm personality
  • Display tact, discretion and a non-judgemental attitude
  • Able to work independently as well as in a group setting
  • Strong supervisory skills – Able to work with clients, volunteers and staff
  • Organization and leadership skills needed
  • Food Handlers Certificate required
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to do light janitorial work

 

 

 

 

Successful candidate will be required to provide upon hiring:

  • A clear vulnerable sector screening
  • A clean drivers abstract
  • Participate in our online Armatus Abuse Training and Health and Safety training required upon hiring, as well as updated annually

HOURS: 20 hours per week. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, 3:30pm to 8:30pm. From November 15, 2019 to March 15, 2019 (with possible extension to March 31, 2019)
