KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Registered Nurse (RN) is accountable to the Director of Care to provide professional nursing care to residents and supervise care given by Personal Support Workers (PSW). Primary functions include assessment and planning of resident care needs; delivery of skilled procedures according to the College of Nurses of Ontario Standards of Practice; medication administration; and documentation. The RN takes the Nurse Designate role for the building when needed.
The Registered Nurse is required to perform their duties in a manner consistent with the core values and employee guiding principles, ensure resident safety, and demonstrate customer service excellence.
Perform other duties as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- This is a temporary part time position based on 30 hours biweekly
- This role is in a seniors congregate setting and may be subject to working in outbreak (COVID, flu, etc.) conditions
- May work with aggressive or cognitively impaired residents
- Interacts with families, staff, and volunteers
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Must possess current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Experience in rehabilitation or long-term care nursing
SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:
- Proficiency in interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal
- Proficiency with MS Office suite, including Word, Outlook, internet use and computerized documentation
- Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening, tuberculosis test and vaccination information
- Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities
