Description
The Christmas Kettle Assistant helps to organize, direct, and supervise the work performed by Christmas Kettle Campaign Worker activities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with promoting, coordinating and overseeing the activities of Christmas Kettle Worker staff and/or volunteers.
- Assist with overseeing the operations of the Christmas Kettle campaign including scheduling of staff and/or volunteers.
- Assist with the orientation and performance management of kettle worker staff and/or volunteers.
- Assist the Christmas Kettle Coordinate with scheduling kettle staff and/or volunteers and responds to emergency absences, etc.
- Foster and maintain positive working relationships with kettle sites.
- Coordinate the delivery and pick-up of kettles to/from sites daily, ensuring the security of donations.
- May deliver and pick-up kettles in an emergency situation.
- Host at a kettle as required ensuring necessary coverage for breaks, etc.
- Ensure that kettle locations have adequate supplies of literature etc.
- Assist with transferring the kettle contents into the deposit bags for processing.
- Complete shift reminder phone calls and/or voice mail messages for volunteers
- Perform other related duties as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- This is a temporary part time position based on 15 hours per week from November 14 to December 21, 2024
- Shifts may include days, afternoons, evenings, weekend shifts, and split shifts, Monday through Saturday.
- Flexibility in scheduling is required, as the hours may increase as per the Christmas Kettle Campaign operational requirements.
- Ability to lift/move up to 20 lbs. (11.34 kgs) in a safe manner.
- Required to wear appropriate Salvation Army identification.
- Local travel is associated with this position; using a program vehicle may be necessary.
Normal hours of work: Thursday through Saturday, 3:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and includes a ½ hour unpaid meal break.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Completed High School or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Minimum of one (1) year of prior related experience working in community-based programs would be a definite asset.
- Experience in office administration.
- Experience with general office equipment and must have strong skills and experience using word processing (WORD); spread sheet use (EXCEL).
- Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License, provide an original copy of current driver’s abstract for review and verification that it satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.

- Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.
- Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
