Description
Within the context and mission of the Salvation Army Northridge Community Church, give cooperative direction to various aspects of the summer day camp program. This Day Camp seeks to provide excellent children’s programming, including families that would otherwise be unable to afford a summer day camp experience for their children.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work directly with the Day Camp Leader and their supports in implementing all programming for the Northridge Community Church Summer Day Camp.
- Supervise all campers and camp volunteers throughout the day and assign tasks.
- Regularly check the low ropes course to make sure things are set up or taken down and put away.
- Assist with organizing camp space areas in the church and outside of the church.
- Be aware of all safety protocol and government regulations and ensure that the camp falls in line with these requirements.
- Attend staff meetings as necessary.
- Be a part of the Summer Camp health and safety committee.
- Welcomes families to Day Camp and work with families whose children have special needs to adapt programming accordingly.
- Work respectfully with Camp Staff, and Church Staff, and families of those children attending Day Camp.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Program and the following represents the applicant criteria:
- Is between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of the employment.
- Is a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act*: and,
- Is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations.
- *International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are a Canadian Citizen or a permanent resident.
- Have or be willing to get Standard First Aid and CPR.
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Previous experience working with children.
- Experience working at camp.
SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:
- Able to work within a Christian atmosphere and to promote the goals of the program and the mission of the Salvation Army.
- Must be comfortable teaching/interacting with campers/staff over Zoom/Online virtual programming and be comfortable with pre-recording items for day camp.
- Possess leadership qualities, be organized, hardworking, dedicated and creative.
- Previous experience working with children.
- Works well independently and is a team player.
- Willing to provide a Criminal Background Check, complete The Salvation Army’s Statement of Applicant for Work with Children form and complete the Armatus Abuse Risk Management online training before camp begins.
- Complete training in the Salvation Army Territorial Headquarters Online safety protocols and procedures.
- Complete all necessary Covid-19 hygiene requirements as well as any Public health safety measures.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License and a current copy of a Driver’s abstract for review and verification that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, an asset.
- Be available for full 8 weeks of program.
- Be able to provide 2 written references, 1 from an employer/supervisor and 1 from a family friend/priest.
- Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector
- Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
HOURS: 30 hours a week. 8 weeks. Starting June 26th – ending August 18th, 2022.
