Description

This position is a one-year contract for the development of the Causeway Initiative.  The Causeway Initiative offers meaningful volunteer opportunities to community members and quality program support to clients.  Causeway Initiative Volunteers conduct home visits to women who have moved into the community from Belinda’s Place to offer support and community connections.  The Program Coordinator and Facilitator is responsible to design and implement this friendly visitor program.  The Program Coordinator and Facilitator is also responsible for the instructional design of a self-sustaining digital training and education program for prospective volunteers who will be providing home visits to previous residents of Belinda’s Place.   Lastly the Program Coordinator and Facilitator is responsible to recruit and train the first round of program volunteers.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervisory 

  • Recruitment, training and onboarding of program volunteers
  • Maintain program volunteers list
  • Provide job specific orientation, training and scheduling program volunteers in accordance with government contracts and core standards
  • Supervise all programming for Causeway Initiative clients, reporting to the Manager, Housing Retention Programs, and in collaboration with other supervisory team members where relevant
  • Coach and mentor program volunteers, developing plans to work towards engagement in home visits, offering on-call support and support for special projects
  • Monitor and ensure program volunteers practices are in compliance with Policies, Procedure, Operating Principles and Core Standards
  • Participate in the provision of the Case Management Plan including support and other direct services to clients of the program
  • Establish and maintain proper records, logs and incident reports to ensure the smooth operation of the program
  • Ensure that all computer records, reports, logbook entries, and other administrative tasks are done accurately and consistently as per the personal information protection and electronic documents act
  • Complete complex reporting, statistical evaluation, and oversee program budget, reporting to Manager on outcomes & funder requirements, attend funding-related events & share program outcomes
  • Provide statistics and monthly reports to Program Services Director
  • Ensure the Program Director is kept informed of all incidents, observations and infractions occurring in the program and that the information is properly documented and passed on to the appropriate staff

Program

  • Design a virtual education and training program for prospective program volunteers
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate lesson plans and group sessions, on topics such as advanced mental wellness, addictions, recovery and rehabilitation, utilizing best practice evidence-based models, including housing-based case management and accompaniment and follow up procedures
  • Development of administrative frameworks and best practices for program delivery, including new and innovative approaches to digital programming, hard target strategies, teaching to learning styles & using creative multi-modal approaches
  • Utilize knowledge of issues pertaining to ADL’s, Person-Environment-Occupation Model, occupational therapy, human trafficking & exploitation, rehabilitation, immigration, de-colonizing praxis, fine arts, lived experience inclusion, domestic violence/abuse, mental health, addictions, homelessness, employment, education, racial justice & equity, financial inclusion, and internal policies and procedures to develop program materials and partnerships
  • Implement existing courses and programming, build community relationships and coordinate with community partners in service delivery
  • Delegate & coordinate completion of tasks to Program Volunteers as per their role descriptions, provide accountability & performance evaluation on an ongoing basis, including oversight of lived experience placements
  • Oversee financial resources of the department, including petty cash, expense reconciliations, and any other resources determined for program delivery
  • Ensure the implementation of the Causeway Initiative Model as it relates to development, activities, and education, including case notes, activity reports, therapeutic approaches & intervention
  • Seek community donations and in-kind support for programming, develop relationships with external stakeholders, participate in community-based events & represent organization as per Director’s request
  • Complete ongoing facilitation training related to volunteer training, programming, and therapeutic approaches as required, provide training to other team members
  • Ensure that program procedures are maintained, develop relevant policies and present to Management, learning guides, and facilitator materials where required
  • Test-run programming and utilize adult learning techniques to refine project concepts, materials, and delivery
  • Ongoing maintenance of resource library, and message boards, as well as maintaining physical resources including cell phones, vehicles, and program equipment
  • Conduct client feedback sessions to support program participant input integration into programming activities
  • Monitor and ensure off site safety practices in compliance with health and safety standards, complete incident report investigations & develop program related policy & follow violence & risk assessment guidelines.
  • Ascertain and provide participants with referral services within the community and/or social services resources where relevant
  • Establish meaningful connections with community partners, support and participate in stakeholder evaluations and focus groups, and attend offsite meetings with stakeholders as required
  • Assess client program suitability to internal and external programs and agencies as required

Systems/Contacts

Internal

  • Liaise with interdepartmental staff members i.e. Supervisor, Case Management, Shelter Manager, Business Manager, Director of Programs etc.

External

  • Work with Business Manager to ensure that Causeway Initiative provides a safe and healthy living and working environment and volunteers comply with Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Identify issue and either fix or inform the Health and Safety Committee

Perform other duties as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work is hybrid, performed virtually and in-person when required, subject to high client levels and crisis intervention
  • Work is performed to develop and implement program service delivery model
  • The incumbent works in generally agreeable conditions, with the exceptions of high degree of multitasking
  • The incumbent may have little or no travel required

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum college diploma in social services
  • Bachelor of Social Work preferred
  • A valid first aid and CPR certificate
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License and a current copy of a Driver’s abstract for review and verification that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, an asset
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Minimum of two-year’s experience supervising staff
  • Three years’ experience working with homeless
  • Must have thorough knowledge and understanding of Women’s issues, Mental Health and Addictions issues,
  • Previous experience with Health and Safety issues
  • Knowledge of community resources in York Region considered an asset
  • Thorough knowledge and a commitment to anti-racism, anti-oppression and equity

SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:

  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office and Office 365
  • Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment with conflicting priorities is a must
  • Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Must have good interpersonal/time management skills
  • Ability to remain calm and focused in stressful situations
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities
