Position Purpose Summary:

The Forklift Operator / Warehouse Worker / Driver will be responsible for standard warehouse duties of receiving, sorting, put-away, picking and shipping of primarily toys and gifts related to the Toy Mountain and Toys For Tots Christmas campaigns. Regular power equipment (forklift, power cart) use is required as well as a significant amount of manual work and use of computer systems to help supply donated goods to needy kids in our communities. Driving to either collect or distribute donated goods may be required



  • Perform shipping and receiving of toys
  • Inspect toys received for quality / damage
  • Sort and re-package toys for storage and / or distribution
  • Operate various types of forklifts to move and store goods in warehouse according to warehouse layout plan
  • Use Warehouse Management System to record / facilitate warehouse operations
  • Perform general cleaning and maintenance tasks of warehouse, yard and equipment as required


  • Occasional delivery and / or pickup of goods in various vehicles up to and including a 3-ton truck
  • Operate, inspect, and maintain vehicle and related documentation in compliance with CVOR requirements
  • Document / report any vehicle incidents or damage in a timely manner


  • Promote the Mission, Policies and Objectives of the Ontario Distribution Centre
  • Prepare, complete and submit documentation in a timely manner as required
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment
  • Adhere to the Salvation Army Policy & Procedure Manual and the Ontario Distribution Centre, Policy & Procedure Manual and Health & Safety Guidelines
  • Ensure all comments regarding goods and / or services from clients, donors or other contacts are communicated to management in a timely manner
  • Wear the appropriate Safety and Personal Protective Equipment and maintain a clean uniform
  • Ensure all work is completed in a safe manner, in accordance with TSA, WSIB, CVOR, and all other regulatory requirements
  • Other related duties as assigned


  • Work is typically performed in a warehouse environment with exposure to handling garbage, monotony of work (repetitive tasks), various odours
  • Work potentially involves some outdoor work in winter
  • Occasional to frequent delivery/driving may be required
  • May on occasion be required to lift/move/transport weights of more than 39lbs but regular weights would normally fall under 39lbs



  • Completion of High School
  • Current Forklift Operators Certificate (preferred but not essential)

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements  

  • More than 1 year but less than 2 years of related experience
  • Valid class G drivers’ license

  • Proven attention to detail and the ability to follow legislation, directions, policies, procedures and well-defined steps
  • Ability to personally and safely lift up to 39 pounds
  • Reliable, self-motivated and confidential
  • Ability to work in a team setting as well as independently
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Able to adopt a flexible work schedule during busy season
  • Ability to perform several tasks concurrently with ease and professionalism
  • Ability to understand and adhere to the Code of Ethics
  • Able to work in a consultative, diplomatic and tactful manner
  • Respect for and understanding of The Salvation Army - its mission, culture, and values

Successful candidate will be required to provide upon hiring:

  • A clear criminal record check
  • A clean drivers abstract
  • Participate in our online Armatus Abuse Training and Health and Safety training required upon hiring, as well as updated annually

HOURS: 40 hours per week
