The Camp Coordinator will lead in all various areas for the summer day camp program.  They will encourage, support, respect, and demonstrate a positive, caring, energetic, attitude towards all who attend the day camps and other staff members. Within the context and mission of the Salvation Army Oshawa Temple, give direction to and oversee all aspects of the summer day camp program.  This Day Camp seeks to provide excellent children’s programming, including families that would otherwise be unable to afford a summer day camp experience for their children


  • Work with the Youth Coordinator and Assistant Coordinator to plan, coordinate and implement all programming for the Oshawa Temple Salvation Army Summer Day Camp
  • Coordinate with day camp team to lead children and youth to respond to the gospel through presentation and prayer
  • Develop relationships with children, using empathy and active listening to encourage happy and well-developed children and youth
  • Lead staff in training/meetings and development
  • Know and act in accordance with policies and procedures of The Salvation Army to ensure the safety and confidentiality of participants and information (including new COVID-19 Policies and Procedures
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned (set up, clean up, communication)

Written and Verbal Communication

  • Develop and document business requirements, process and reports as needed
  • Develop and document options and recommendations to issues and problems
  • Support key stakeholders in understanding the implications of options and decisions


  • Create and maintain list of reports required for health and safety compliance purposes
  • Support external reporting requests as needed


  • This is a temporary position based on 37.5 hours per week
  • Be available for full 8 weeks of program
  • Oshawa Temple Church grounds (Both indoor and outdoor work environment)
  • This job requires the ability to lift/move 25 lbs. and reach, bend, stand, sit, and use a computer
  • Flexibility in scheduling is required
  • Carry a cell phone for emergencies
  • 20% travel requirements approximately


  • This position is funded in part through the Canada Summer Jobs Program and the following represents the applicant criteria:
    • Is between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of the employment.
    • Is a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act*: and,
    • Is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations.
    • *International students are not eligible.  Recent immigrants are eligible if they are a Canadian Citizen or a permanent resident.
  • Standard First Aid and CPR is an asset but not required


  • 2-3 years of experience in leadership in a camp setting
  • Experience supervising 5+ staff and/or volunteers
  • Have own computer with reliable internet connection, as file access and meetings may take place online
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License and a current copy of a Driver’s abstract for review and verification that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, an asset


  • Must have excellent written, verbal and computer skills (this includes but not limited to video editing)
  • Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Self-motivated and disciplined
  • Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics
  • Organized, hardworking, dedicated, creative, and possess leadership qualities
  • Able to work well independently and as in a cooperative team-oriented atmosphere
  • Knowledge of Korean and/or Farsi language, an asset but not required
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities
